Washington Fruit Headquarters
[Megan Isbell as project manager with MA Wright as Engineer of Record]
Architect: Graham Baba Architects
Builder: Artisan General Contractors
Headquartered in Yakima, and family owned and operated since 1916, Washington Fruit grows, packs, and ships premium fruit products from the northwest throughout the world. For their new office/headquarters, architects Graham Baba were tasked with creating a refuge from the nearby industrial agribusiness landscape. The exposed timber and steel trusses and angled colonnade give rhythm and order to the overall ethereal composition.
As structural project manager, Megan and her team at MA Wright collaborated carefully with the designers at Graham Baba Architects to create a unique truss form to span 70ft across the main office area. Angled column pairs support the trusses outside of the expansive glass walls creating a lively rhythmic collonade effect. This award-winning project highlights the transcendent results of a high level of collaboration and integration of structural engineering with masterful architectural design.
